PRESENT PRACTICE
PRESENT PRACTICE
The work of Present Practice is about ways of being in the landscape. It asks people to look, to look again, to touch and smell the rich, vegetative growth around them, and to find pleasure through contact with the living world. We like landscapes that are abundant and chemical-free, that express regionality and embrace spontaneity. Our name reflects an intention to be present in the work that we do and for that work to be sustaining.
We are winners of the 2022-2023 Gilmore D. Clark and Michael I. Rapuano/ Kate Lancaster Brewster Rome Prize in Landscape Architecture awarded by the American Academy in Rome. In Winter/Spring 2019, we were awarded MacDowell Fellowships in Architecture. As Present Practice, we were Lead Instructors and Artists in Residence at the Overlook Field School in 2017 and 2018 and Artists in Residence at the Center for Land Use Interpretation (CLUI) in 2015. In 2019-2020, we were Co-Directors of the Knowlton Rome Program.
